Mardi Himal Trek: A 4-Day Journey to the Heart of the Annapurnas

Experience the hidden gem of the Annapurna region with our 4-day Mardi Himal Trek. Starting from the lakeside city of Pokhara, this trail offers a perfect blend of cultural immersion and high-altitude adventure. Unlike the more crowded routes, Mardi Himal provides a peaceful path through ancient rhododendron forests and traditional Gurung villages, culminating in face-to-face views of the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and the majestic Annapurna massif.

Whether you are a beginner looking for your first Himalayan experience or a seasoned trekker seeking a short yet stunning getaway, this moderate trek delivers breathtaking panoramas from viewpoints exceeding 4,200 meters.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pokhara to Forest Camp via Kande

  • Altitude: 2,600 m / 8,530 ft

  • Trek Duration: 5 hours Your adventure begins at 8:00 AM with a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Kande. The journey showcases the lush terraced fields and the winding Seti River. From Kande, we begin our ascent through enchanting forests. After a midday break at a local tea house, we continue our 5-hour trek to Forest Camp, a serene clearing surrounded by dense greenery.

Day 2: Forest Camp to High Camp

  • Altitude: 3,550 m / 11,646 ft

  • Trek Duration: 5–6 hours After a hearty breakfast, the trail climbs higher into the cloud forest. As the vegetation changes from thick jungle to alpine scrub, keep an eye out for local wildlife and Himalayan birds. We reach High Camp, situated at an impressive altitude, offering a dramatic 360-degree view of the snow-capped peaks.

Day 3: Sunrise at Viewpoint and Return to Forest Camp

  • Altitude: Sunrise Viewpoint (4,300 m) | Base Camp (4,500 m)

  • Trek Duration: 7–8 hours We start early at 4:00 AM to catch the golden hour. A 2-hour hike brings us to the Upper Viewpoint, where you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise over Mt. Fishtail and Annapurna South. For the adventurous, an optional trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp is available (weather permitting). After soaking in the views, we descend back to Forest Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 4: Forest Camp to Kalimati & Return to Pokhara

  • Altitude: 1,650 m / 5,413 ft (Pokhara)

  • Trek Duration: 4–5 hours Our final day is a gentle descent through mossy forests and past hidden waterfalls. The trail to Kalimati offers a peaceful atmosphere, accompanied by the constant silhouette of Machhapuchhre. Upon reaching Kalimati, a private jeep will be waiting to take you on a 2-hour drive back to your hotel in Pokhara.
