Highlights of the Kathmandu Heritage Tour
The Royal Durbar Squares: Living History
Kathmandu Durbar Square: Located in the city’s heart, this site is a spectacular display of Newari architecture. Wander through ancient courtyards and admire the intricately carved wooden windows of the royal palaces.
Patan Durbar Square: Known as the “City of Fine Arts,” Patan in Lalitpur showcases a seamless fusion of Buddhist and Hindu influences. The fine metalwork and stone carvings here are unmatched.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square: Step back into the medieval era in this well-preserved city. Bhaktapur is world-renowned for its “55-Window Palace” and the vibrant cultural heritage that permeates every brick.
Sacred Stupas & Spiritual Shrines
Pashupatinath Temple: Nepal’s most sacred Hindu temple sits on the banks of the Bagmati River. Witness the profound cycle of life and death at the public crematorium and meet the iconic Sadhus (holy men).
Swayambhunath (The Monkey Temple): Perched on a hilltop, this 2,600-year-old stupa offers a panoramic view of the valley. Watch the resident monkeys play among ancient shrines and golden spires.
Boudhanath Stupa: Experience the serenity of one of the largest stupas in the world. Surrounded by Tibetan monasteries and shops selling authentic Thanka paintings, it is the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.
Changu Narayan Temple: Visit the oldest temple in Nepal, a 4th-century masterpiece located on a peaceful hilltop. It remains a pinnacle of early Lichhavi dynasty craftsmanship.
