Editor’s Note
“There is a unique stillness at Gallipoli that you won’t find anywhere else in Turkey. While Istanbul is a symphony of noise and color, the peninsula is a place of profound silence and respect. My advice? Take a moment to look out over the Aegean from Chunuk Bair—it’s a view that stays with you forever.”
City Legends & Mysteries: The Ghost of the Trenches
Legend has it that during the height of the battle, a “Cloud of Mist” descended upon the British 4th Norfolk Regiment. According to witnesses from both sides, as the regiment marched into the mist near Hill 60, they seemingly vanished into thin air. When the mist cleared, the soldiers were gone, and they were never seen again—not as prisoners of war, nor among the fallen.
