Editor’s Note
“Don’t miss the feet of the Reclining Buddha! They are inlaid with 108 auspicious symbols of the Buddha in exquisite mother-of-pearl. Also, at the Gems Gallery, the craftsmanship is world-class—even if you aren’t buying, the ‘Theme Park’ ride is a surprisingly tech-forward experience that kids and adults both enjoy.”
Urban Legends & Mysteries
The Plaster Secret of Wat Traimit: For over 200 years, the Golden Buddha was covered in plain, unattractive plaster. It was moved several times and even left under a simple tin roof. In 1955, while being moved to its current home, a crane cable snapped and the statue fell. The plaster cracked, revealing the solid gold beneath! It is believed it was covered in plaster centuries ago to hide it from invading armies who were looking for gold.
