Welcome to Turkey! Arrive in Istanbul and included a transfer to our hotel. Spend the afternoon at leisure or head out to explore the city. This evening our tip-filled welcome meeting takes place with an Excursions Finder Representative.
We’ll start the day with an exciting tour of Istanbul’s old city. We’ll make a number of stops on our trip, starting with a visit to the stunning Blue Mosque famed for its blue Iznik tiles and unique 6 minarets, we’ll continue to the ruinous Hippodrome – now a small park of sorts and once the scene of chariot races and political activities in Byzantine times, we’ll also discover Hagia Sofia Museum – constructed as a Basilica in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian, Topkapi Palace, and the Underground Cistern – an ancient underground water tank replete with carved and fluted Corinthian columns and a puzzling head of Medusa. Visitors walk on walkways suspended above the shallow water. It’s very cool and peaceful. At the end of the tour, we drive you back to your hotel.
Early this morning, we travel to the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli. Here, we’ll embark upon a guided tour of the region, once the site of fierce fighting and today almost hauntingly beautiful, with its wooded landscape dotted with understated memorials to the war dead. Our guided tour of the region will take in sights such as ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine Australian War Memorial and cemetery, Chunuk Blair New Zealand War Memorial and cemetery, the Nek, Johnston’s Jolly, and the many fortified trenches still clearly visible amongst the scrub after all these years.
Crossing the Dardenelles by ferry (offering panoramic views of the entire Gallipoli Peninsular) we proceed to our hotel for a little rest and relaxation. The rest of the day is yours
After breakfast we are heading south, we enjoy a guided tour of Homer’s Troy, famed for the Trojan wooden horse and fabled Helen. Step back in time as we visit the legendary Roman ruins of Troy and Pergamum. We enjoy a guided tour of the ancient city of Troy dating back to 3000BC! En route to Kusadasi, we explore the ruins of Pergamum with its impressive temples, library, and medical facilities, before visiting a local carpet emporium – Turkey produces some of the finest carpets in the world! Enjoy your hotel and pool in the evening.
Today, we enjoy a guided tour of the legendary Roman ruins of Ephesus. Positively the best-preserved classical city in the eastern Mediterranean, and among the best places in the world to get a feel for what Roman life must have been like. Ephesus, under the Romans, was a vast city with a population nearing 250,000. It became the Roman capital of Asia Minor. We’ll have plenty of time to tour the marble ruins of Ephesus. Be sure to see the famous Library of Celsus, the gymnasium of Vedius and Stadium, and the great theatre, and stroll the streets in the ruins of this large Roman ruined city. It’s completely fascinating. We’ll see public toilets, a brothel, fountains, and various temples, before visiting the quaint Greek village of Sirince peached mountainside within a valley of vineyards and orchards. After the tour, we drive back to your hotel in Kusadasi.
Today, after breakfast, we drive to Pamukkale to visit the region’s famed calcium-rich terraced pools. Known locally as the Cotton Castles, they are a natural phenomenon and gift of Mother Nature.
Pamukkale was formed when warm, calcium-rich mineral water cascaded over the cliff edge, cooling and depositing in the process. The calcium built natural shelves and pools on the cliffs, known as travertines. Today, some of the pools are closed. However, areas of the travertines can be walked upon, albeit in bare feet. We can however opt to enjoy a unique and very pleasant dip in the warm waters at the Pamukkale Thermal, with its submerged fragments of fluted marble columns in the center of the ruined spa town of Hierapolis, which was a cure center founded around 190 BC by the Romans. After the tour, we are heading direction of Marmaris.
Koycegiz is a small hamlet located at about 45 minute’s drive from Marmaris. During this special excursion, you will have the opportunity to visit koycegiz lake, sultanate mud baths, temple tombs, and the famous Dalyan Turtle beach. The trip begins with a pick-up from your hotel at 08:30 am in the morning and ends up with a drop-off at your hotel at around 18:00 pm in the evening. The bus drive from Marmaris to Koycegiz village will take around 45 minutes. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to river boats and cross the famous Koycegiz lake to arrive at the Sultaniye mud baths. The thermal springs, mud baths, and hot spring baths are known to provide you with some secret health benefits. After you are filled with all this fun, you are offered a specially cooked local cuisine for your lunch on the boat. The boat then moves along the pristine surroundings and reaches the shore. On the way, you can see the ancient Rock Tombs at the city site of Caunos, while you are watching the Temple Tombs your tour guide will reveal to you several legends and stories associated with this enchanting place.
Then you move on your boat to Turtle Beach (Iztuzu Beach) facing the Mediterranean Sea. You can swim in the freshwater lake just beside the beach and if you are lucky enough, you can see turtles moving around the beach. The entire Marmaris Turtle Beach Tour moves across nature’s most pristine environment. At the end of the day we bring you back to your hotel.
Today is your free day. Enjoy the day at your wishes. Relax by the pool or beach or opt for a day trip to the Greek Island of Rhodes – only an hour catamaran ride away!
